A former senator from Kogi State, Dino Melaye, on Sunday, October 12, told President Bola Tinubu that since he has granted presidential pardon to those he described as “70 drug lords,” the president should scrap the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Melaye said this on his verified X handle on Sunday night, adding that since Tinubu has decided to pardon the “drug lords,” his action has made a “beautiful nonsense” of all the efforts of the agency since inception.

The NDLEA is the agency saddled with the responsibility of combating drug trafficking, abuse, and related crimes. as well as investigating and prosecuting individuals and organizations involved in drug-related offenses.

It is also responsible for raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and promoting prevention strategies and also collaborating with global partners to combat transnational drug trafficking.

However, apparently reacting to the presidential pardon, Melaye disclosed that the pardon is unprecedented as he claimed that nothing of such has ever happened anywhere in the world.

Melaye wrote: “Pardon granted 70 drug lords by President Tinubu is unprecedented in history. Checks have revealed that it has never happened in the history of the world.

“My advice to the president is to scrap the NDLEA. His action has made a beautiful nonsense of all the efforts of the agency since inception.”
