Social media has been flooded with viral videos showing a lecturer of the Niger Delta University (NDU), Bayelsa State, physically engaging in a fight with a female student during an examination.
According to eyewitness accounts, the clash began after the lecturer reportedly caught the student engaging in malpractice and ordered her to leave the examination hall. The student, however, refused to comply, insisting that her seized mobile phone be returned before exiting.
Tension escalated when the student allegedly smashed the lecturer’s phone during the altercation. In one of the videos, another official could be heard pleading with the student to vacate the hall, but she stood her ground, demanding her phone.
The ugly confrontation has sparked outrage online, with many condemning both the lecturer’s handling of the situation and the student’s conduct.
Efforts to reach the university’s management for an official response proved unsuccessful as of press time.
When contacted, the Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, Musa Mohammed, said:
“I will contact the DPO in the area and get back to you.”
The incident has raised fresh concerns over the rising wave of indiscipline and tension between students and academic staff in Nigerian universities.
