Some commuters in Lagos State have expressed their frustrations after spending over 12 hours inside traffic between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.
The commuters, mostly workers, took to their social media handles to speak about their experiences, as some of them said the situation has made them develop health challenges.
The gridlock in many parts of the state, especially on the Third Mainland Bridge, was due to the ongoing repair of the Kara end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway aggravated by an accident involving a truck and a number of cars.
Oluwaseun wrote: “I spent 12 hours 30 minutes from Falomo to Berger since yesterday at 5pm to today 5:30am, and finally got home at 06:40am. Best believe, I’m not leaving my house again this week.”
Oyindamola wrote: “People slept inside the Lagos-Ibadan expressway traffic, they’re still currently inside it.”
Yinka Ogunnubi: “Got a text this morning from my staff that he got home at 3am this morning due to the traffic on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. It’s shocking how an accident that happened on the Kara bridge can cause such a gridlock. Living in Lagos is not for the faint-hearted.”

My friend left the office at 5pm yesterday, got stuck in traffic till 4am, and only to get home this morning, just to dress up, hit the road, and get stuck in traffic again. He can’t even tell if the traffic is a fresh one or the same one from yesterday.”
Jane_Doe: “It’s no longer traffic jam. This morning as at 7:10am!!! Lagos-Ibadan expressway is still blocked. People that went to work yesterday slept on the road. No wonder people are exhausted all the time. This kind of lifestyle will shorten life expectancy. This is not life.”
Nelson wrote: “I still ask again. How do you people in Lagos survive there without going mad? Traffic from 6pm to 5am? Lifespan in the mud.”
Ilerioluwa: “Lagos people, you all are trying. A friend got home at 3am this morning and she is expected to resume work this morning again. And to think she is expected to leave the house early to beat traffic again. How are you people surviving this?”
@Tobzzy212: “One of my friends that’s working in Island and stays in “Berger Lagos” reached house by 2am because of traffic and still woke up at 5am to go to work again. I no fit dey cry for him this morning.”
Morris Money: “Do you know that people left work yesterday by 5pm and got stuck in traffic. Time is 7:30am. That same traffic is still on. TRUE LIFE STORY.”
@TiMoRi_: “My colleagues are not home yet since yesterday…they left office in Lekki 5pm on Tuesday and it’s 6:20am on a Wednesday and they’re still on the road. No be life we dey live for this country.”
