The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has foiled an attempt to smuggle cocaine worth N1 billion inside a vehicle along the Badagry-Seme border
The Seme Area Command of the service was said to have intercepted 22 packages of the hard drug in the early hours of Tuesday which were carefully hidden in a special bunker underneath the axle of a Toyota Highlander Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).
“Our dedicated officers intercepted a Toyota Highlander carrying 22 packages suspected to be cocaine. These substances were carefully hidden in a special bunker underneath the vehicle’s axle, so expertly concealed that, for the eagle eyes of our officers, it would have been virtually impossible to detect,’’ the customs stated in a statement on Saturday, February 14.
The statement added that the driver of the vehicle was arrested in connection with the recovery and he was on Friday handed over to the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) along with the cocaine for further interrogation.
“In line with inter-agency cooperation, the seized cocaine and the arrested suspect were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday, February 13,” the Customs said.
