The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected kidnappers and armed robbers in separate operations, recovering an AK-47 rifle, a victim’s vehicle, the suspects’ operational car, and a network jammer.
Police spokesperson SP Edafe Bright disclosed this in a statement on Monday, September 22, 2025, in Asaba. He said the arrests followed intelligence-led raids carried out by operatives of the command.
According to the statement, on September 12, a team led by the Divisional Police Officer of Ekpan, CSP Labe Joseph, arrested two suspects, Elvis Ebroghro, 36, and Abiola Adegore, 34, both residents of Ometan. Preliminary investigation revealed that a day earlier, the duo had been sighted by a community security guard while attempting to steal a vehicle battery. The suspects allegedly threatened to kill him if he reported the incident.
Following the arrest and confession of one of the suspects, police operatives intensified their investigation, leading to the arrest of another member of the gang, Lucky Ebroghro. A follow-up operation led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle hidden inside an isolated building in Ometan community.
In a separate operation on September 8, the command received a distress call around 1:30 a.m. that a young man had been kidnapped from his home in Ogwashi-Uku. The victim, who was later shot in the leg after his family paid N2 million ransom, was rescued by operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Squad led by CSP Godwin Osadolor.
Two suspects – Chukwuebuka Nka, 25, of Nenwe in Enugu State, and Uche Okechukwu of Amaifeke, Imo State – were arrested at Owerri Road, Ndemili North LGA of Anambra State. Police also recovered the victim’s white Venza SUV from the suspects.
Further investigations led to the arrest of 18-year-old Somto Chukwuma from Ihiala LGA, Anambra State, at their hideout in Agidiase village, Ogwashi-Uku. The suspects later took police to another hideout in the area, where officers recovered their operational Toyota Matrix car with registration number RRT-331-AE and a network jammer circuit device.
Delta State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the operatives for their resilience and professionalism, vowing that criminals will find no hiding place in the state.
He assured residents of the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace and safety across communities.
