The Delta State Police Command has arrested suspected armed robbers and recovered a stolen Mercedes Benz GLK, multiple firearms, and a haul of stolen valuables during separate operations in Asaba and Ogwashi-Ukwu.
The operations, conducted between August 4 and 5, 2025, were led by the Divisional Police Officers of B Division, Asaba, and Ogwashi-Ukwu, in collaboration with local vigilante groups.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, said in a statement on Sunday that officers of B Division, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted a suspected stolen Mercedes Benz GLK (registration number NZM 10 AP) on August 5 at a parking lot along former Deputy Governor Road, Asaba.
The suspect, identified as Chinedu Eze, was arrested while attempting to sell the SUV to an unsuspecting buyer. Investigations later revealed that the vehicle had been snatched at gunpoint in April 2023 in Abakpa, Enugu State, during which the rightful owner was shot. The vehicle had since been fraudulently re-registered in 2025.
In a separate operation on August 4, around 4:30 a.m., police in Ogwashi-Ukwu responded to a distress call about armed robbers terrorising residents along Chelsea Street. The DPO, CSP Okoyomon Israel, quickly mobilised his Anti-Crime Squad and local vigilantes to the scene.
Two suspects – Thywill Selvin, 22, of Poly Road, Ogwashi-Ukwu, and Guntim Bako, 32, of Kwale Junction – were arrested after attempting to flee.
Recovered from them were a pump action rifle with one live cartridge, a Beretta pistol with six live rounds, three assault rifle rounds, two stolen motorcycles (Daylong, Reg No: SAP 369 VK; Qu Link, Reg No: URM 750 QV), 25 mobile phones, four laptops, a tablet, a PS4 console, a home theatre set, two music players, five bags of clothing, and other valuables.
SP Bright added that some of the recovered items have already been identified and reclaimed by their owners. Police say investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will face prosecution once inquiries are complete.
