Despite the payment of ransom demanded from his family members, bandits have gone ahead to kill a community elder abducted by them.
The bandits were said to have invaded Mai Shay community in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State in the early hours of Monday morning and abducted the community elder, Malam Mohammed Sabiu. They later contacted the family and demanded an unspecified amount as ransom.
However, the sad news got to the community on Monday evening that the community elder was found killed despite the fact that the family members had paid the ransom demanded.
A source close to the community told Impact Nigeria News Online on Monday night that the killing has thrown the community into confusion as they are worried that the bandits may return and abduct more persons in the community.
The source said: “The community is now in deep mourning, with many residents demanding accountability and stronger security measures as violence continues to threaten people especially farmers who rely on their land for survival.”
The community as well as others are also angry that security agencies as well as the state government seem to have left them at the mercy of the bandits following incessant attacks they face regularly.
