The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, on Tuesday, said he had been stopped by the police headquarters in Abuja from handing over to the recently-appointed acting Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun.
According to report, Edgal had been redeployed to Abuja to carry on as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Explosive Ordnance Unit at the Force Headquarters, and that Egbetokun had replaced him in acting capacity.
Edgal had earlier invited Journalists on Tuesday to come and witness his handover to his successor but stated that they were about concluding the process when they got directive from Abuja to suspend the action.
The Commissioner for Police said, “I am sure that you know Mr Kayode Egbetokun; he is an old-timer in the command.
“You all know that our first job is about order and direction; we were about concluding the handing and taking over procedure when we were instructed by our bosses from Abuja to suspend action for now. So, there will be no change of guard for now. Of course, we would keep the press briefed about any development.
“But I am happy, humbled that you find it serious enough for you all to come to witness what we are doing here. I consider it an honour.”
Meanwhile the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti stated on Tuesday that Edgal is still the CP of Lagos State based on the orders of the IGP.
Oti said “The Inspector General of Police has graciously suspended the planned redeployment of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Imohimi Edgal, from the command.”
