That the Federal Republic of Nigeria is blessed with human and natural resources is as obvious as the daylight but the fact that the country wallows in avoidable misfortunes from security to religious and economic to social challenge is beyond understanding. The country is grossly plagued by leadership challenge. This challenge can only be remedied by a collective resolution of all Nigerians.
As a country, since independence we have experienced military and civilian rules, both with leaders that professed visions and brighter future for the country, unfortunately we always ended up with far worse situation than the previous. The military coups that ushered in the various military leaderships since 1966 terminate previous administration due to bad leadership yet the country remains plagued.
There is no contesting the fact that visionary leadership is extremely essential in determination of the future of a nation, Nigeria is not an exception. However, selfish interest, greed and a hunger for power became the foundation for our woes as a country.
Today, the country is bedeviled by tribalism, nepotism, religious sentiment, corruption, insecurity and gross economic sabotage.
It is important that the country owns up to these issues and finds sincere and lasting solutions to these problems. Interestingly, the solutions to these problems are not farfetched, we as Nigerians need to be sincere with ourselves about the country.
It is high time for the followership to take responsibility for the misdeeds of the leaders of the country and resolve to put right the wrongs committed by our leaders. Nigerians must learn to speak with one voice, not minding the many divergent opinions, ethnic background, religious orientation and the various divisive mechanisms the leaders of the country have machinated to divide Nigerians. There is no doubt, the need for unity of purpose among Nigerians.
On the other hand, it is imperative for the leaders at all levels to see their offices as a genuine call to service. Leadership is nothing but a burden no one should hastily accept. It is a commitment to better a cause; in this case, it is a commitment to better the lives of Nigerians.
The common man Should be able to sleep with his two eyes closed; farmers should be able to go to their farms without the fear of terrorists waiting to butcher them; students should be able to go to school without the fear of being exploited or forced into marriage while travellers on high ways should not be apprehensive of being kidnapped for ransom and the youths should be sure of empowerment and employment.
IMPACT NEWS holds that Nigerians have had unfortunate share of bad leadership, the current crop of leaders should therefore have the courage to dispense selfless leadership for a better Nigeria.
