Immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has cautioned leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to remember the fleeting nature of political power.
El-Rufai, now a member of the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), issued the warning on Thursday in Abuja during the public presentation of “OPL 245: Inside Story of the $1.3 Billion Nigerian Oil Block”, a memoir authored by former Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke.
“I appeal to those in power today to remember that their time will soon end and other people’s time will come. Power is transient,” El-Rufai stated.
The 26-chapter book chronicles the controversial 2011 deal in which Royal Dutch Shell and Italy’s Eni paid $1.3 billion to acquire Nigeria’s deep-water oil licence, OPL 245—also known as the Malabu oil deal. The oil block is believed to hold as much as nine billion barrels of crude.
