A former Director-General of the Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC), Theophilus Okere, who allegedly stabbed his wife to death at Imerienwe community in the Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area of Imo has been said to be suffering from dementia.

Dementia is a term for diseases and conditions characterised by a decline in memory, language, problem-solving and other thinking skills that affect a person’s ability to perform everyday activities.

In a chat with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, a family member of the accused revealed that the family had been managing the former IBC boss’s condition for some time.

“Even today that he stabbed his wife to death, when he was asked why he did it; he responded that his wife was still sleeping.

“The other Sunday, Okere went to church and said that his car was missing when in fact the car was parked in his compound,” it added.

According to Imo state Police spokesman, Orlando Ikeokwu, investigation is ongoing on the incident.

The suspect, 82, was reported to have fled after the act on his wife, Beatrice whom he had married for 50 years.
