In what could be described as a family business, a father and his son have been arrested by men of the Bayelsa State Police Command after they were found to have concealed four single-barrelled guns inside a tricycle during a stop and search on their way to Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

The father, Friday Tibi, aged 68 years, and his son, Oyabrade Tibi, aged 38 years, were arrested on Monday, July 6, around 10:30 a.m. by operatives attached to the Anti-Vice Unit while conducting a stop and search operation along the Igbogene-Tombia Expressway, Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

The police operatives flagged down the tricycle conveying the father and his son and when it was searched, the four guns were found carefully concealed in the tricycle. They were promptly arrested.

Preliminary investigation by the command revealed that the two men were travelling to Abua, Rivers State, apparently in order to sell the guns that were kept inside a sack, covered with sticks before concealing them in one of the compartments of the tricycle.

The father and son were said to have given more useful information to the operatives while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yenagoa, for more investigation in order to ascertain the destination of the firearms and identify those who wanted to buy them.
