A father, his wife and their newborn escaped death by the whiskers when youths from two communities in Bauchi State engaged in a free for all at the naming ceremony of the child.
Unfortunately, however, one of the youths involved in the clash was killed and has been buried in accordance with Islamic rites while three teenagers had been arrested in connection with the incident.
It was gathered that the clash occurred during the ceremony at Dosi Village, Kirfi Local Government Area of the state in the evening of June 25 when youths from Tudun Sullubawa Village had a confrontation with those from Dosi Village regarding distribution of food and drinks.
In the process, one Sani Abacha Alhaji Jabbi, a 27-years-old youth from Dosi Village, was hacked down with cutlasses by youths from Tudun Sullubawa.
He was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Gombe State, for medical treatment, where he was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.
The matter was said to have been reported at the Bara Police Outpost under the Kirfi Divisional Headquarters and subsequently, police operatives visited the scene for assessment.
Following their investigation, three youths from Tudun Sullubawa were arrested in connection with the crime. Those arrested were Kano Alhaji Malam, aged 18 years; Ali Malam, aged 17 years and Shehu Alhaji, aged 16 years.
“Meanwhile, the corpse of the deceased had been buried by his relatives in accordance with Islamic rites. Furthermore, investigation was concluded at preliminary stage and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, (SCID) Bauchi, for more detailed investigation and prosecution,” the state police command said in a statement on Wednesday night.
