The Federal Government of Nigeria has commiserated with the family of the former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr Maikanti Baru.

Baru’s death was announced on Saturday morning. He was aged 60.

President Muhammadu Buhari, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, commiserated with the government and people of Bauchi State, as well as management and staff of NNPC over Baru’s demise.

“President Buhari acknowledges Baru’s contributions to ensuring stability in the oil sector in Nigeria, with a more guaranteed supply and predictable price regime that weakened unscrupulous parallel marketers, especially during festive seasons.

“Baru worked very hard” and initiated “reforms in virtually all departments of the corporation”, bringing it up to speed with global trends and best practices.

“The President prays that the almighty God will receive the soul of the departed, grant eternal rest, and comfort all who mourn him,” the statement read in part.

The former NNPC GMD who died on Friday from an undisclosed illness retired on 7 July 2019 at statutory age of 60.
