The Federal Government through the Economic Sustainability Plan is set to provide over one million jobs within the construction value chain in its National Social Housing Programme.
To make this feasible, the government intends to target those in the construction sector to drive the social housing scheme.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Ajuri Ngelale, said the government plans to construct 300,000 houses across the country. He also revealed that construction companies and contractors would be sourced locally.
He further revealed that the 300,000 housing units would be equitably distributed across the states of the country to create maximum economic impact.
The project is a means of cushioning the effect of the fragile economy as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
