A fire incident on Saturday occurred at the headquarters of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), razing its fourth floor and the incident is coming a few days to the take-off of the new tax laws in the country.

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) disclosed the incident in a statement on Saturday evening, saying it broke out on the fourth floor of the building.

FIRS added that as a result of the swift support of the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service and other emergency responders, the fire was prevented from spreading to other floors or causing more destruction.

“We are grateful to report that no lives were lost in the incident. However, a number of offices on the affected floor sustained damage.

“An investigation into the cause of the fire has commenced, with preliminary assessments pointing to a possible electrical fault.

“In the meantime, all internal safety protocols are being thoroughly reviewed and strengthened to mitigate against future occurrences,” the statement said.
