Five Toyota cars of different models have been recovered from two members of a car-snatching syndicate during their arrest by men of the Lagos State Police Command.
The two syndicate members, Femi Afolabi and Sunday Ugbomudia, were arrested by the operatives while the cars stolen at different parts of Lagos were found in their possession.
Their arrest followed a report of car theft by a resident of the state and after receiving the report, operatives of the command embarked on an intelligence-led investigation.
According to the command, through the deployment of technical and tactical intelligence, the stolen car, a Toyota Camry 2008 model, was recovered at the point of being re-registered, leading to the arrest of the syndicate involved in the vehicle theft.
The command disclosed that preliminary investigation revealed that the syndicate operated within Lagos State while disposing vehicles stolen in Lagos in Ibadan, Oyo State, and Ilorin, Kwara State.
After the arrest of the two men, further investigation led to the recovery of stolen Toyota Corolla 2008 model, Toyota Camry 2012 model, Toyota Corolla 2006 model as well as another Toyota Camry 2008 model.
“The suspects confessed to their involvement in a series of car-snatching and robbery operations within and outside Lagos State. Efforts have been intensified to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover more stolen vehicles linked to the gang,” the command said in the statement on Thursday.
The two men had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for more investigation into their criminal activities.
