Globacom, through its social responsibility arm, Glo Foundation, held a graduation ceremony in Lagos on Thursday for the first batch of participants in its Skillbridge training programme, a milestone event that is transforming the lives of everyday Nigerians.
The initiative, which provides creative-technical skills training aimed at empowering individuals to broaden their horizons and unlock alternative sources of income, focused its maiden cohort on street sweepers from the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).
Speaking at the event, Jumobi Mofe-Damijo, Head of CSR at Globacom, commended the graduates for their commitment and resilience. “Their dedication to this programme has been truly inspiring. It reinforces our belief that investing in the grassroots is a powerful way to uplift communities and give back meaningfully to society,” she said.
Mofe-Damijo described the training as a “significant milestone” for both the participants and Globacom, expressing confidence that the skills acquired—ranging from digital literacy to baking and fashion design—would help open new economic doors for the graduates and their families.
Representing LAWMA’s Managing Director, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the agency’s Executive Director of Finance, Mr Kunle Adebiyi, lauded Globacom’s gesture as “commendable,” noting it would help staff explore “multiple income opportunities” beyond their regular jobs.
The graduation also featured skill exhibitions. One graduate demonstrated how to use Canva for digital content creation, while another shared insights on basic AI applications—showcasing the practical impact of the programme.
Several participants were honoured for excellence. Mrs. Obadina Omowunmi Sarah was recognized for her performance in baking, and Damilola Olowolafe for fashion design. In a touching moment, Udoh Blessing, who took her mother’s slot in the programme, shared her joy at receiving digital training. “If I don’t use what I’ve learnt, even God will be angry with me,” she said passionately.
With Skillbridge, Glo Foundation signals a strong commitment to grassroots empowerment and real-world change—one skill at a time.
