Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Tuesday night abducted the head of a village as well as his wife, sister, daughter and a female resident.
The marauders invaded Kogari village in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, abducting the village head, whose name was given as Bello Abdulkadir Kogari, his wife, Aisha, and the others from the village.
A source close to the local government area told Impact Nigeria News Online on Wednesday, May 13, that the gunmen, who invaded the village on motorcycles, attacked and injured some residents before going away with the village head and the four ladies.
The source added that more residents would have been abducted but some of them, especially the men, had fled before their arrival having had a prior knowledge of their invasion.
It was also gathered that some residents made distress calls to security agencies close to the village but their calls were allegedly not responded to.
As of the time of this report, the marauders have not made contact with the village regarding payment of ransom for the release of those abducted.
In another development, on Tuesday evening, bandits stormed Gwarjo town in Matazu Local Government Area of the state, leaving many residents injured after a number of buildings were set ablaze.
The marauders were also said to have gone away with ‘many residents.’
The attacks on many communities in Katsina State has renewed calls for urgent action from security agencies, government authorities and traditional leaders to confront the escalating wave of banditry and terrorism.
