Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Tuesday evening barricaded a road at a community in Zamfara State, abducting all the passengers inside two buses in the process.
The gunmen were said to have mounted the barricade along the Wanzamai-Magazu road in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state, shooting sporadically into the air.
A source close to the local government area told Impact Nigeria News Online on Tuesday night that the marauders shot at vehicles passing the road and after some time, they shot at the tyres of two fully-loaded buses, thereby rendering the vehicles immobile.
They thereafter abducted all the passengers as well as the drivers and took them into the forest while all the valuables of the passengers were left behind inside the buses.
As the bandits were on the road unleashing mayhem, the source disclosed that no security operatives were around despite the fact that the scene of the abduction was about two kilometres from a police checkpoint.
Residents close to the scene said they were worried as they had expected that bandits and terrorists would cease fire during the holy month of Ramadan.
As of the time of this report, neither the state government nor any security agencies had reacted officially to the abduction of the passengers.
