Gunmen on Wednesday, May 13, kidnapped two workers of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, on a highway in Zamfara State.
The gunmen were said to have abducted Abdullahi Aliyu of the Histopathology Department and Rufai Alkali of the Microbiology Department of the tertiary hospital while they were returning to Sokoto after attending a conference in Zamfara State.
They were reportedly picked up at the Mari axis of the Sokoto-Zamfara highway and whisked to an unknown destination on Wednesday afternoon.
A source who was in the know of the incident told Impact Nigeria News Online on Wednesday night that the abductors had established contact with the authorities of the teaching hospital, demanding a ransom of N20 million for their release.
It was also gathered that the state police command has been informed of the abduction and the command has assured that the captives will be rescued unhurt.
Family members of the captives are also said to be in trauma over the abduction as they have continued to hold prayers for the release of the two men.
In another cheering development, on Wednesday morning, security operatives from the Musawa and Matazu Divisional Headquarters of the Katsina State Police Command successfully repelled an attempted attack on Gwarjo town, Matazu Local Government Area of the state by bandits.
The marauders were said to have fled after an intense exchange of gunshots, abandoning their motorcycles, two AK-49 rifles, ammunition and a mobile phone at the scene.
