Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed a teacher abducted two months ago despite payment of N3.5 million as ransom.
The gunmen abducted Malam Mustapha Yahaya Maru, a teacher at the Federal Government College, Anka in Zamfara State, on May 4 when he was on his way to the school
Since then, he had been in the den of the abductors who established contact with his family members and demanded the sum of N10 million as ransom.
Following negotiations, the ransom was reduced to N5 million and the family made frantic efforts to raise the money. They were eventually able to raise N3.5 million which they sent to the marauders in the forest.
However, despite the payment of the money, the family members were informed on Saturday morning that Malam Mustapha Yahaya Maru has been killed by his captors.
It could however not be confirmed if the family has been able to recover his body or if the matter has been reported at the police station.
In another development, on Friday morning, troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, rescued four kidnap victims after foiling a kidnapping attempt in Surimi, a border community between Kebbi and Sokoto states.
Acting on credible intelligence about terrorist activity in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, the troops swiftly mobilised and engaged the attackers with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee into the bush.
All the four victims were safely reunited with their families, while no casualties were recorded among the troops.
