An 86-year-old father as well as his son are currently in trouble after they allegedly collected the sum of N4.5 million from a man whom they promised to sell a non-existence acre of land to and went ahead to threaten to kill him.
The father and son, Kareem Akinleye and Akintunde Akinleye, were on Friday brought before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State,and charged with conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretences, threat to life and stealing.
They however pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.
The Prosecutor, Sergeant Kehinde Olarotimi, told the court that the octogenarian father and his son allegedly committed the offences at Sango area in Ibadan.
He alleged that they obtained the sum of N4.5 million from one Moshood Rafiu on the pretext of selling non-existent three acres of land to him but failed to do so.
Olarotimi said that the old man and son allegedly converted the money into their personal use and threatened to kill Rafiu over the said land issue.
He said the offences contravened Sections 516, 419, 323 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Adebola Adeola, granted them bail in the sum of N2 million each and two sureties each in like sum.
She held that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendants and thereafter adjourned the case till December 18 for hearing.
