A man and his wife who were found to be running an illegal clinic have been arrested by men of the Ondo State Police Command after a delivery they carried out went awry.
The man, Kehinde Olawuyi and his wife, Eniola Olawuyi, were discovered to be running the clinic located at Orita Odigbo in the Odigbo Local Government Area of the state, treating patients of ailments and taking delivery of pregnant women.
The long arm of the law caught up with them after they admitted a 28-year-old pregnant woman for delivery at the illegal medical facility.
They were said to have mishandled the delivery which resulted in the woman bleeding profusely and becoming unconscious. She was thereafter rushed to another clinic by her family members for emergency medical attention.
However, despite all efforts by the medical personnel at the clinic, she later died as a result of the excessive loss of blood.
One of the family members was said to have reported at the Odigbo Divisional Headquarters of the command, causing the officers to visit the illegal clinic where the couple were arrested.
According to the command, preliminary investigation revealed that the husband and wife are not licenced medical practitioners and the facility had been operated illegally for some time.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department SCID for more investigation while they are expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
It will be recalled that last Sunday, January 18, the command arrested a 25-year-old man, Idris Nasiru, for allegedly operating an illegal clinic in Ore in the same Odigbo Local Government Area.
The arrest followed what the police described as “another significant breakthrough in its sustained fight against medical quackery.”
