Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday, May 5, said there is no doubt that the African Democratic Country (ADC) is dead due to the mass movement of members of the party to other parties, particularly the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Akpabio said this on the floor of the Red Chamber when he read the letters from two senators who decided to quit the ADC on Tuesday.
The senators are Enyinnaya Abaribe, the senator representing Abia South senatorial district, who defected from the ADC to the Labour Party as well as Victor Umeh, representing the Anambra Central Senatorial District, who defected from the ADC to the NDC.
“All those defecting from ADC should just compile their names in one paper so that we don’t continue announcing and announcing defections. I think ADC is dead,” Akpabio said while reading the defection letter of Abaribe.
It will be recalled that on Sunday, presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, announced his decision to leave the ADC for NDC, citing unpleasant situations in the party.
A few hours before then, former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, also left the ADC and joined the Seriake Dickson’s NDC. They were eventually registered as members of the NDC.
Since their defection, many politicians, including members of the Obidient Movement loyal to Peter Obi, have moved en masse to the NDC.
