Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, has urged Nigerian lawyers to lead the fight against corruption and uphold ethical standards in both public and legal sectors. Speaking at the 2025 Annual Law Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lagos Branch, Dr. Aliyu expressed concern over rising ethical lapses in the legal profession.
He criticized legal practitioners who use delay tactics and exploit legal loopholes to frustrate justice, particularly those filing lawsuits challenging the ICPC’s investigative powers. “Some lawyers have become enablers of injustice,” he said, stressing the need to restore public trust in the legal system.
Addressing the theme, “Reimagining the Practice of Law: Ethics, Innovation and the Future of Legal Services,” Dr. Aliyu welcomed legal innovation but warned against unregulated tech adoption that could undermine fairness and confidentiality.
He also advocated stronger whistleblower protections and revealed that ICPC is working with law schools and universities to embed anti-corruption education in legal training. Reforms will focus on ethics, digital literacy, and public interest law.
Calling on lawyers to act as patriots, not just professionals, he concluded: “Only by restoring integrity can we secure justice for all Nigerians.”
The conference drew top legal minds to discuss innovation and ethics in law.
