The residence of former governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, was searched on Thursday, February 19, by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The search was confirmed by Muyiwa Adekeye, Media Adviser to Malam El-Rufai, on his X handle on Thursday night, as he added that the operatives searched his Aso Drive residence at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The search comes amid ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct during El-Rufai’s tenure as governor.

El-Rufai was taken into ICPC custody on Wednesday night following his release on administrative bail from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Ubong Akpan, one of El-Rufai’s lawyers, condemned the search, describing it as “unlawful, and a clear violation of legal procedures and fundamental rights.”

On Monday, El-Rufai honoured the invitation by the EFCC and was detained till Wednesday. Shortly after he was released on bail, he was arrested by the operatives of the Department of State Services and handed over to the officials of the ICPC.

As of the time of this report, El-Rufai is still being detained by the commission.
