The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring discipline, professionalism, and integrity within the Nigeria Police Force.
This comes as 151 senior officers face disciplinary hearings over allegations of misconduct and professional infractions.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed in a statement that the disciplinary proceedings began on Monday, July 14, and are scheduled to run until Friday, July 25, 2025, at the IGP Smart Conference Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
According to Adejobi, the officers under review hold the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and above and are drawn from various commands and formations across the country.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its commitment to promoting integrity, professionalism, and public trust,” the IGP stated, adding that no form of misconduct or indiscipline will be tolerated, regardless of rank or position.
The hearings are being conducted by the Force Disciplinary Committee, a key internal mechanism responsible for addressing breaches of professional conduct and ethical violations. The committee is overseeing a “thorough and transparent review process”, in accordance with existing police regulations and disciplinary procedures.
Egbetokun emphasized that the initiative aims to strengthen internal accountability and uphold the rule of law within the force, signaling a broader reform effort to improve public confidence in the police.
The outcome of the hearings will be forwarded to the Police Service Commission (PSC) for final decisions on appropriate sanctions or possible exonerations, as mandated by law.
This disciplinary drive comes amid broader efforts by the police leadership to reposition the force as a service-driven institution anchored in accountability, integrity, and justice.
