A four-member delegation from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Headquarters, alongside the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Anambra State, Dr Queen Elizabeth Agwu, has met with security agencies ahead of the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State.
The Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) meeting, which is part of a readiness assessment visit to the state, was held on Friday, October 24.
According to a statement shared on INEC’s official X page, the meeting, which marked Day 3 of the delegation’s visit, focused on evaluating security preparedness.
In her welcome remarks, Dr Agwu commended ICCES for its vital role in ensuring electoral security before, during, and after elections, adding that the meeting was to ensure early deployment of materials and personnel during the election.
She expressed appreciation for the synergy among security agencies, noting that their coordinated efforts have maintained peace in the state.
Agwu said, “We are aware that ICCES is at the core of election security and has never failed in its responsibility.
“As we approach the November 8 election, we must ensure early deployment of materials and personnel to polling units to guarantee a smooth process. We are entering this election with a peaceful state of mind.”
The National Commissioner supervising Anambra State, Dr Kenneth Ukeagu, joined the REC in welcoming participants, describing the ICCES meeting as “as important as the election itself.”
Ukeagu commended the security agencies for their roles in previous elections and urged continued collaboration as preparations enter the final stages.
Other National Commissioners in attendance at the meeting including Professor Rhoda Gumus, Mr Sam Olumekun, and Dr Baba Bila, stressed the importance of effective coordination at the Registration Area Centres (RACs) to ensure smooth and timely movement of materials and personnel to polling units on election day.
