An irate mob went berserk and set the house of a father ablaze after he attacked a man who allegedly raped his daughter in Gombe State.
The Gombe State Police Command announced the incident on its Facebook page on Tuesday afternoon, as it said it has begun investigation into the matter which occurred in Bojude community, Kwami Local Government Area of the state, on October 18.
It was gathered that a report was made at Bojude Divisional Headquarters of the command by the father, Mr. Samuel Doka, who said his his 16-year-old daughter informed him that one Lukman Musa allegedly lured her to his residence and had raped her.
The command found out that Mr. Doka reportedly took the law into his own hands after he was told of the incident and attacked the man, inflicting a deep cut wound on his head.
This act didn’t go down well with some youths in the area who mobilised, proceeded to Mr. Doka’s residence and set it ablaze.
The command wrote: “Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Bojude Division, swiftly responded. The injured suspect was promptly evacuated to Cottage Hospital, Bojude, for medical attention, while Mr. Doka and his family were rescued and taken to the police station for safe custody.”
The command said it has begun what it described as a “discreet investigation” as the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
