Irish authorities deported 35 Nigerians – including nine women and five children – on Wednesday in a major immigration enforcement effort. The individuals were flown out on a chartered flight from Dublin Airport, coordinated by the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB).
According to a GNIB statement, the deportees comprised 21 adult males, nine adult females, and five children from family units. The operation was part of Ireland’s policy to remove individuals who have exhausted legal avenues to remain in the country.
The Department of Justice and An Garda Síochána jointly carried out the exercise.
The move has sparked mixed reactions. While some praised the strict enforcement of immigration laws, advocacy groups expressed concern over the treatment of vulnerable individuals. Critics urged the Irish government to adopt a more compassionate, case-by-case review system, especially for families with children.
The names of those deported have not been made public.
