The Kano State Police Command says it has arrested two men in connection with an armed robbery and attempted murder incident that occurred last month at Bera Estate, Chevron, in Lagos.
According to police, the suspects – identified as 25-year-old Mathew Adewole of Naibawa Quarters and 31-year-old Mukhtar Muhammad of Unguwa Uku Quarters – were picked up on September 11 by tactical operatives acting on intelligence at Naibawa Quarters, Kano.
Investigators allege that Adewole attacked a Lagos resident, popularly known as Lil-Kesh, on August 19, inflicting a deep cut to his neck in an attempt to rob and possibly kill him. Police said the victim was then forced to transfer ₦2.12 million from his bank account via mobile phone to Muhammad’s account.
The suspects have since been transferred to the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the operatives for what he described as a diligent operation. He also commended members of the public for their cooperation and assured that the police would continue to work with communities and other security agencies to tackle crime.
Police spokesperson Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said the arrests underscore the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
