A four-day fumigation exercise of areas affected by the March 15 explosion in Abule Ado in Lagos State will soon commence.

The Director General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu who made this known urged residents to keep off the areas.

Oke-Osanyintolu also said 340 structures were affected by the impact of the blasts and would be subjected to integrity test by a joint public-private team led by the Materials Testing Agency.

He said the exercise will cover foundation and solid material testing, adding that structures located up to 500 metre radius from the epicentre would be tested as well.

“Those that fail the testing will be leveled to ground zero. This testing exercise applies to the identified buildings (340) as well as all those within a 500 meter radius from the epicentre.

“Scavengers are advised to keep away and residents who have prematurely commenced repair and reconstruction are directed to stop work and wait for the results of the testing,” he said.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the agency has recorded a total of 588 displaced persons as at 1pm on Thursday, adding that 102 of them were currently at the Igando Relief camp.

“We appeal for calm and urge members of the public to keep off the scene and to be law abiding. Our help desk has been moved to the Igando relief camp and remains manned by our personnel,” said Oke-Osanyintolu.
