Some terrorists belonging to the Lakurawa group on Sunday night launched an attack on a community in Kebbi State, killing an unspecified number of residents and setting houses ablaze.
Lakurawa is a terrorist group operating specifically in Sokoto and Kebbi states as well as across the border with Niger Republic. It is affiliated to the Islamic State Sahel Province.
The group launched the attack on Kalkami community in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State, shooting sporadically and killing some residents before setting houses ablaze.
A source close to the local government area told Impact Nigeria News Online on Monday afternoon that the terrorists stormed the community around 9:00 p.m. and started gunning down residents unprovoked after which they set a number of houses ablaze before leaving with some of the inhabitants of the community as captives.
As of the time of this report, the number of those killed or abducted is yet to be ascertained.
In another development, on Saturday afternoon, residents of Sukuntuni town in Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State received a threat letter written in English from persons suspected to be bandits.
Also in the early hours of Sunday, bandits entered Tudun Wulli community in Sukuntuni district in the state, conducting house-to-house searches.
Though there were no kidnappings or killings, but they carried significant looting of the property of the residents.
Sources said those who witnessed the raid also linked the development to a Thursday night raid in Sukuntuni, where attackers carried out a similar operation, injuring several civilians.
