Former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has expressed strong support for the emerging opposition coalition being led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while firmly maintaining his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking at an empowerment event organized by Senator Mustapha Khabeeb (PDP, Jigawa South West) in Dutse over the weekend, Lamido said Nigeria urgently needs a united opposition to rescue it from what he described as the “misrule and failure” of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Yes, I support the coming together of the opposition under the ADC, but let it be clear—I will never leave the PDP. I built this house with my own hands,” Lamido declared to a cheering crowd of party supporters. In a symbolic gesture aimed at strengthening opposition unity in Jigawa ahead of the 2027 elections, Lamido introduced the ADC state chairman, Kabiru Hussaini, to the PDP gathering.
He did not spare criticism for the APC, accusing the ruling party of betraying the trust of Nigerians. “The three PDP lawmakers from Jigawa are working for the people. The APC ones? They’re only working for themselves,” he said.
Senator Khabeeb also used the occasion to highlight PDP’s development legacy in Jigawa, particularly under Lamido’s administration, while showcasing his own efforts to empower constituents. According to him, over 3,000 people have benefitted from agriculture and business support initiatives in 2025 alone.
The event ended with chants of PDP solidarity, as supporters pledged to unite for a stronger opposition in 2027.
