It was the timely arrival of men of the Imo State Police Command that saved a loverboy from being administered jungle justice by a mob after he allegedly pushed the sister of his girlfriend from a two-storey building.

The man, Ifeanyi Chukwu Joseph, aged 26, was said to have pushed the 17-year-old girl, Chiamaka Chukwuokore, from the building situated along the Mbonu Ejike Street, Ikeneagbu in Owerri, the state capital.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday, November 1, around 1:00 p.m. as a result of an altercation between them over the alleged maltreatment of her sister by the loverboy.

When she was allegedly pushed from the building, the girlfriend’s sister sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is currently receiving medical attention and remains in critical condition.

Following the incident and thinking the lady had died in the hospital, a mob mobilised and attempted to lynch the man.

However, the prompt intervention of the police operatives led to the rescue of the loverboy who was subsequently arrested and taken into police custody.

The man is currently undergoing investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in order to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and facilitate necessary legal action.

“The command urges members of the public, particularly social media users, to refrain from spreading unverified information about the incident. The public is advised to exercise restraint and rely on official sources for accurate updates,” the command said in a statement on Monday, November 2.
