A man has been arrested by men of the Bauchi State Police Command after he reportedly abducted two children of his uncle and demanded the sum of N50 million as ransom for their release.

The command announced the man’s arrest in a statement on Saturday, October 25, saying the man, Abdulkarim Tasiu, was arrested after he abducted the two children, aged 12 and six, when they were waiting for their school bus along a road.

It was gathered that the father of the children reported at the police station that his male and female children were kidnapped by unknown person along the main road in Tilden Town.

Following the report of the abduction, the police began investigation and intelligence reports gathered indicated that a man came to the area in a tricycle and took away the children to an unknown destination.

The man, who was later found to be a nephew of the father, was said to have later called the father with a hidden number and demanded the sum of N50 million as ransom.

However, following negotiations, the ransom was reduced to N10.2 million and he ordered that the money be brought to Farmers Motors Junction in the Bauchi metropolis.

The command wrote: “Acting on credible intelligence, the detectives cordoned off the area which led to the arrest of the man while he was about to collect the ransom. Further investigation led the detectives to Rukuba, Jos, Plateau State, where the two children were rescued.”

The command stated that during his interrogation, the man confessed to the crime, saying he carried out the act because of long-standing grudges he had with his uncle.

He was said to have given more useful information to the operatives about his nefarious activities and he is expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
