A man who was said to have beaten up his mother because she refused to give him a pistol and live bullets she found in his bag has been arrested by men of the Kano State Police Command.
According to reports, the 25-year-old man, Edidiong James, attacked his mother after she found a Berreta pistol with eight rounds of ammunition and refused to give him the arm and ammunition.
It was gathered that on January 25, around 7:30 p.m., police officers attached to Panshekara Divisional Headquarters in Kano metropolis responded to a distress call from neighbours which indicated that James was mercilessly beating his mother at their residence.
However, upon the arrival of the operatives, James was said to have fled the scene, but his already battered mother handed over the pistol and bullets to the officers.
She also told them that she discovered the weapon and bullets in her son’s bag and refused to give them to him, leading to the beating she received from him.
In the presence of the officers, she expressed concern over her son’s behaviour since his return from the New Year celebration in their village.
Following a manhunt launched by the police operatives, James was eventually arrested and he is currently in police custody where he was said to have given more useful information about how he got the pistol and the bullets.
The case has also been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for more investigation after which he is expected to be charged to court.
