A man is currently assisting men of the Oyo State Police Command in their investigation after a woman who was his customer died in his apartment suddenly.
What made the matter worse for him was that when the woman died in the apartment at the Ago Iwoye area of Ogun State, the man took her corpse to her family house in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
According to information, the man, Basiru Rasheed Orelope, aged 37 years, had a business deal with the woman, Rukayat Rafiu, aged 35 years.
It was gathered that the case was reported at the police station by two relatives of the woman, Ademola Rasheed Adebayo and Taoreed Olayiwola, who stated that the man brought the body of the woman to their residence under circumstances they considered suspicious.
Following the report of the case, the man was arrested.
During his interrogation, Orelope was quoted as saying that the woman was his customer who purchased a brand of popular supplement products from him.
He further explained that both of them travelled to Ago-Iwoye in regard to the products where he lodged her in his rented apartment.
He however discovered later that the woman was gasping for breath while holding an inhaler, adding that he rushed her to a nearby medical facility where she was confirmed dead on arrival.
After her death, the man subsequently conveyed the corpse to the deceased’s family residence in Ibadan, a development which raised suspicion and prompted the report to the police.
“The corpse has been deposited at a morgue along the Akala Express Road, Ibadan, for preservation and autopsy, while photographs have been taken. The suspect is currently in police custody, and a thorough investigation has commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the death,” the command said in a statement on Saturday.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and thorough investigation.
