A Mercedes Benz Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) which was snatched at gunpoint in Owerri, Imo State, has been intercepted in Otukpo, the Benue State capital, by men of the state police command.
The command announced the interception of the vehicle on its Facebook page on Friday night, saying it was snatched at gunpoint from its owner and following intelligence it got from officers from the Imo State Police Command about the movement of the vehicle towards Benue State, the officers spread their dragnet.
This yielded positive results when the vehicle was sighted while on transit to Otukpo and the police team carrying out stop and search duties intercepted the vehicle and arrested four occupants suspected to be those who snatched it.
The command wrote: “Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was being conveyed to another destination when it was intercepted in Otukpo.
“Items recovered from them inside the vehicle were phones of various brands, charms, bunch of keys of vehicles as well as documents of another vehicle.”
They were said to have given more useful information to the police operatives about their nefarious activities and the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department SCID.
They are also expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
