Gunmen suspected to be bandits have continued to have field days especially in the North-Western part of the country as they unleashed their fangs at communities in the states of Sokoto and Zamfara within 12 hours.
They attacked two communities, killing five persons, injuring seven others while abducting what was described as ‘a large number of residents.’
The marauders, said to be loyal to Bello Turji, struck first on Saturday night and attacked Kwaren Gamba community in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing three persons, injuring seven others and abducting several residents.
The incident, according to a source close to the community, occurred around 8:00 p.m. when the loyalists of the notorious Turji, riding motorcycles, invaded the community and unleashed their terror unchallenged.
A few hours after that, on Sunday morning, another set of bandits invaded Goran Namaye community in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
During the early morning attack, two persons were killed while several others were taken captives and moved into the forest.
“Families are grieving and residents are once again living in fear as they call for urgent help and protection,” a source in the community said, regarding the latest attack.
Sokoto and Zamfara states have had a fair share of bandit attacks in recent times and like other states in the North-West, residents have been gripped with continuous fears of frequent attacks which the various state governments and security agencies seem not to have solutions to.
