It was sheer Divine Providence that saved a motorist from untimely death as his Toyota Sienna went up in flames on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred at the UNILAG waterfront end of the ever-busy highway when the motorist, heading towards the Lagos Island, quickly jumped out of the vehicle after noticing massive smoke coming out from the engine.
It was gathered that a few minutes after he jumped out, the vehicle burst into flames, and it was completely burnt before onlookers and other motorists could salvage the situation.
Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were also at the scene after receiving a distress call and they also called men of the fire service who got there after the vehicle had been completely burnt.
According to the LASTMA officers, the dejected owner of the vehicle was attended to at the scene by its paramedic officials and was taken to a nearby hospital apparently due to some shock he must have suffered as a result of the incident.
The incident caused some gridlock on the highway but LASTMA officers and policemen were on ground to control the attendant traffic situation.
