The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Tuesday, December 9, alerted Nigerians on the circulation of what it described as “substandard and unregister edible oils in Nigeria” at some popular markets in the country.
NAFDAC disclosed this in a statement, saying the edible oils were imported into the country and are in circulation in major markets.
It named the edible oils as FINO, PUR, OKI, SUPER DELICIEX, and LA JONIC, adding that those who imported them brought them in large quantities and even kept them in warehouses.
NAFDAC said the edible oils were found particularly at markets in Onitsha, Aba, Owerri, Warri, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Ikom, Calabar, Lagos (Trade Fair, Oke Arin, Ikotun, Mushin), Kano, Kebbi, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Yola, Gombe, Bauchi, Idi Iroko (Ogun State), Makurdi and Lafia.
“It is also evident that these products have no identifiable manufacturer identities or NAFDAC registration numbers in Nigeria. These products are obviously not registered by NAFDAC and are not available on the NAFDAC database,” the agency said.
It therefore warned consumers, especially those who will use edible oils during the festive period, to be wary of these products and alert its officials whenever they are discovered.
