The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on Saturday disclosed that an international airline, RwandAir, has been fined the sum of N15 million for its failure to resolve a baggage issue within the stipulated timeframe.
Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of the NCAA, disclosed this in a post on his verified X handle, saying the airline from Rwanda was found to have been involved in consumer protection related infractions.
It was gathered that the Nigerian passenger travelling from Kigali, the Rwandan capital, to Lagos, found his bag damaged during the flight and all the complaints he filed over the matter were allegedly not attended to by the airline.
This made the passenger to report the matter at the NCAA and following investigation into the issue, the airline was found culpable regarding the damaged bag.
According to Achimugu, apart from the N15 million fine, RwandAir has also been asked to replace the passenger’s damaged bag and pay $170 as first need compensation, stipulated by Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.
He wrote: “The NCAA has sanctioned RwandAir for consumer protection-related infractions. The airline has been fined a sum of N15 million for its failure to resolve a baggage issue within stipulated timeframe.
“In addition, RwandAir has been asked to replace the passenger’s damaged bag and pay 170 dollars as first need compensation as stipulated by Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.”
