The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says its operatives have uncovered a stash of military-grade ammunition hidden inside bags of cassava flakes, commonly known as garri, during one of the agency’s anti-narcotics operations.
The agency added that it found thousands of 225mg tramadol pills concealed inside a keg of palm oil during a separate interception.
NDLEA disclosed this in a statement alongside a video shared on its X handle on Sunday, May 17.
The agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, noted that officers often encounter other dangerous items while searching for illicit drugs and concealed narcotics.
“In the course of our work searching for illicit drug concealment, we also stumble on other items that constitute threats to national security, as it happened in the attached videos.
“In one instance, #ndlea_nigeria officers discovered a large cache of military-grade ammunition in cassava flakes (garri), and in the second video, thousands of tramadol 225 mg pills were found concealed in a keg of red oil.
“The things we see in the line of duty enh,” the statement noted.
The discovery comes days after the NDLEA said it intercepted a large consignment of Canadian Loud, weighing 4,173.5 kilogrammes, with a street value of N10,433,750,000, at the Tincan Island Port in Lagos.
According to a statement issued by its spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, on Wednesday, May 13, the interception of the consignment of the high-potency strain of cannabis followed intelligence gathering, sustained surveillance, and tracking of the container, which was transloaded several times after leaving Toronto, Canada, on March 28.
The statement added that the container housing the illicit drug was conveyed by rail and arrived at the Lagos port on Saturday, May 9.
