The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for internal candidates, showing that 60.26 per cent of students obtained five credits and above, including in English Language and Mathematics.
Announcing the release at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Wednesday, the Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, said a total of 1,367,210 candidates registered for the examination, out of which 1,358,339 sat for the papers.
According to him, 818,492 candidates secured at least five credits, including English and Mathematics, while 1,144,496 candidates – representing 84.26 per cent – obtained five credits and above irrespective of the two core subjects. Wushishi described the performance as a milestone that underscores the credibility and transparency of NECO, as well as its commitment to quality education.
He disclosed that 1,622 candidates with special needs also took part in the examination. These included students with hearing impairments, visual impairments, albinism, autism, low vision, and other conditions.
The Registrar highlighted a notable drop in examination malpractice, with 3,878 cases recorded in 2025 compared to 10,094 cases in 2024 – a 61.58 per cent reduction. Despite this improvement, 38 schools across 13 states were found to have engaged in mass cheating and will face sanctions. In addition, nine supervisors from Rivers, Niger, the FCT, Kano, and Osun states are to be blacklisted for aiding malpractice and other forms of misconduct.
Wushishi further disclosed that results from eight schools in Lamorde Local Government Area of Adamawa State were withheld after communal clashes disrupted the examination process in those areas.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Education for supporting ongoing reforms at the examination body. He also appealed to tertiary institutions to wait for all examination bodies to release their results before concluding admissions processes.
NECO advised candidates to access their results through its official website, www.neco.gov.ng, using their registration numbers.
