Men of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Nigerian Army, and Civilian Joint Task Force on Wednesday, January 21, repelled some terrorists who attempted to cross from Cameroon into Nigeria around the Galakura general area of Borno State.
The terrorists, suspected to be members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, were said to have been overwhelmed with superior firepower before they fled in different directions.
A military source told Impact Nigeria News Online on Thursday night that the encounter occurred at about 10:25 a.m. on Wednesday when the soldiers, in conjunction with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), made contact with the terrorists who attempted to infiltrate Nigeria through the border axis.
The troops and the CJTF members reportedly subdued the terrorists with superior firepower. This forced them to withdraw in disarray back towards the Cameroon axis, the source disclosed.
The source added that the soldiers and the CJTF members immediately initiated pursuit and exploited the general area, although no further contact was made with the fleeing terrorists.
During the exploitation, they recovered two motorcycles, two bottles of palm oil, a sack of beans, one blanket and other sundry items the terrorists were said to be carrying.
The troops are said to be currently stationed at the forest in the boundary area in order to thwart the efforts of the terrorists to regroup and make any further attempt to get into the country.
