The senatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for Ogun Central Senatorial District, Titi Oseni-Gomez, has raised the alarm over alleged plans by the opposition parties, to unleash thugs on ADC members and supporters, and bar them from voting in the presidential and National Assembly elections slated for Saturday.
Oseni-Gomez raised the alarm while briefing newsmen on Wednesday at the ADC Secretariat, Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.
The former Speaker of the State House of Assembly is contesting for the Ogun Central senatorial seat with the incumbent governor of the state, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun.
Speaking further at the press briefing, Oseni-Gomez, said her interactions with the constituents of the six local governments within Ogun Central, revealed that people were ready to vote for her and expressed confidence that she would emerge winner on Saturday.
She added that it has become worrisome that few days to the election, indications emerged that the poll, particularly the senatorial election could be subjected to a number of antidemocratic tendencies, which according to her, may impede free, fair and credible poll.
The ADC senatorial candidate pointed out that the clandestine move was to instill fear in the people and intimidate them on the election day and vowed that her party will resist any move to thwart its chances of emerging victorious at the polls.
She implored the people in the senatorial district to reject temporary inducement of money and other materials offered them by the opposition parties, urging them to vote for a more enduring legacy.
Oseni-Gomez, also charged them to resist the planned intimidation and troop out to vote according to their conscience on Saturday, emphasizing they must reject self-preservation at the expense of the destiny of Ogun central people.
“As the election approaches, we have heard and seen some trends from the opposition parties which suggest that this election could be subjected to a number of antidemocratic tendencies – for which we cry out now!
“I implore the good people of Ogun Central senatorial district to resist the planned intimidation. They should be strong and troop out to vote according to their conscience on Saturday. They should not be intimidated or fear anyone. More importantly, my people should reject their temporary inducement of money and other materials; and vote for a more enduring legacy. They must reject self-preservation at the expense of the destiny of Ogun Central people,” she stated.
She, however, called on the security agencies to ensure voters are well protected on Saturday and make sure the poll is devoid of bias and collusion.
Oseni-Gomez, equally, charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the voting process, starting from accreditation to result announcement is seen to be free, fair, transparent and credible.
