The Ogun State Government has extended by two weeks the deadline for submission of title documents by property owners and occupiers affected by the ongoing physical development audit.
In a statement issued in Abeokuta, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tunji Odunlami, said the extension will allow more time for property owners and developers to present their planning permits or approach the ministry and its agencies to regularise unapproved developments.
Odunlami noted that the decision followed appeals from affected residents in Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode, describing it as a gesture of goodwill.
“This extension demonstrates the goodwill of the State Government in response to representations made by a cross-section of the affected property owners both in Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode and reflects its commitment to the rule of law and transparency,” the statement read.
The government stressed that the gesture does not diminish the legal and constitutional actions already taken on the matter. It also reiterated that the ongoing development audit in Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode, and other parts of the state is not a witch hunt, but part of continuous efforts to ensure sustainable urban development.
The physical development audit exercise seeks to identify and regularise buildings and developments that do not comply with approved planning regulations.
