A lady who raised a false kidnap alarm against a commercial motorcycle rider at a community in Ondo State that made a mob to attack him has been arrested by men of the state police command.

The incident occurred in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state, last Wednesday when the lady, Abigael Bright, accused the commercial motorcycle rider, Rasheed Awojobi, of attempting to kidnap her while transporting her on his motorcycle from Ogo Oluwa Street to Idi Mango area.

The alarm raised by her rapidly spread within the area and drew the attention of passers-by and residents who formed a mob and inflicted jungle justice on him.

It was the timely arrival of policemen from Ore Divisional Headquarters that saved the Okada rider from death as he sustained injuries to his face and other parts of his body during the attack.

Findings from preliminary investigation by the police however revealed that the kidnapping allegation was unfounded as it was further discovered that the lady circulated the false alarm through her WhatsApp status.

Following the investigation, the lady was arrested and she is currently giving more information about her decision to raise false kidnap alarm and she is expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police expressed deep concern over the increasing rate of false reports and the indiscriminate sharing of unverified information capable of causing panic and disrupting public peace,” the command said in a statement on Saturday, June 6.
